Sustainability Policy for
Sunflower Ceremonies – Wedding Celebrant
As a professional wedding celebrant, I am committed to conducting my services in a way that respects people, communities, and the planet. This policy outlines the sustainable practices I actively pursue and how I integrate them into my work with couples, venues, and suppliers.
1) Core Principles
- Minimise environmental impact without compromising the dignity, meaning, or inclusivity of ceremonies.
- Promote ethical, local, and responsible choices for weddings.
- Be transparent with clients about sustainability options and trade-offs.
2) Home Office and Energy
- Operate a home office, in a building fitted with solar panels to reduce carbon emissions from administrative activities.
- Where possible, choose energy-efficient equipment and practices (LED lighting, energy-saving chargers, and power-down of devices when not in use).
3) Travel and Transport
- Use an electric vehicle (EV) to attend weddings to reduce transport emissions.
4) Ceremonial Content and Practices
- Discourage and actively avoid activities that cause unnecessary environmental impact, including:
- Balloon releases
- Lantern releases
- Butterfly releases
- Offer alternative, symbolic options that are eco-friendly and culturally appropriate (e.g., seed-planting moments, confetti alternatives made from biodegradable materials, or digital keepsakes).
5) Gifts, Favours, and Keepsakes
- Provide biodegradable or eco-friendly promotional gifts where appropriate, or suggest eco-friendly alternatives (such as seed paper, sunflower seeds, recycled-paper OR digital keepsakes).
6) Printing and Paper Usage
- Use recycled paper or paper from certified sustainable sources for printed materials whenever possible.
- Offer digital versions of non-urgent documents to reduce paper waste.
- Print only when necessary and on a print-on-demand basis to minimise waste.
7) Sourcing and Suppliers
- Always strive to use local suppliers wherever possible to reduce transportation emissions and support the local economy.
- Prioritise suppliers who share a commitment to sustainability and ethical practices.

Please note:
- This policy is a living document and will be updated as new sustainability practices and technologies emerge.
